St. Edward’s University is an independent Catholic university, which has increasingly gained national recognition for its high quality academic programs, characterized by its Holy Cross educational mission. More than 5300 students attend St. Edward s, with undergraduates coming from 46 states and 28 countries. St. Edward s University offers five bachelor degrees in more than 50 areas of study, and the University offers eleven masters degrees

The School of Education promotes academic excellence as it prepares caring, moral, and professional educators and kinesiology professionals to teach and work in a wide range of culturally diverse learning environments. The School offers undergraduate and graduate teacher certification at four levels (EC-12, EC-4, 4-8, and 8-12) with certifications in art, bilingual generalist, chemistry, English language arts and reading, generalist, history, life science, mathematics, physical education, religious education, social studies, Spanish, and theater arts with supplemental certifications in bilingual education and English as a second language. The School of Education also offers a Master of Arts in Teaching. The School of Education is committed to working collaboratively with area schools and institutions of higher learning. It has an outstanding reputation for dynamic and innovative partnerships to recruit, prepare, and support teachers; and the School s outreach includes an ongoing commitment to increase the number of students seeking teacher preparation, particularly, underserved populations who reflect the changing demographics of Texas Schools.

The University invites nominations and applications for the Dean of the School of Education who reports directly to the University s Vice President for Academic Affairs. The successful candidate for the position of Dean of the School of Education will: have earned the appropriate doctoral degree; present a background of excellence in teaching and research; give evidence of the ability to provide exemplary leadership in recruiting and retaining highly qualified students and faculty; demonstrate the capacity for creative and innovative leadership in curricular development; be committed to enhancing and perpetuating the Holy Cross tradition as an integral part of the University s Catholic heritage; be willing and able to engage in ongoing, systematic, coordinated planning aimed at positioning the School of Education in the forefront of its peers nationally; be dedicated to the dynamic engagement of all constituencies who can be helpful in strengthening the School of Education through effective resource development; be committed to expanding and enhancing opportunities for graduates; and give evidence of a leadership style which engages colleagues in a collaborative, inclusive, creative approach to the continuing growth, stature, and influence of the School.
